A local man has been arrested and stands accused of stabbing another man outside the Georgia Dome following the Atlanta Falcons’ NFC Championship Game loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

James Lewis McCoy, of Villa Rica, was arrested Tuesday by Georgia World Congress Center Authority police. He apparently stabbed the other man in the neck during an argument.

According to reports, the stabbing took place around 6:40 p.m. in a parking lot outside the stadium. Initially, it was thought the incident was football related, but it has been learned that neither man attended in the game. In fact, Georgia Dome spokesman Jason Kirksey said the argument apparently was over food at a tailgate party.

The 35-year-old victim has not been identified, but authorities say he is in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital. Reports said an argument between the two men took place in the Dome’s silver parking lot, then escalated and one man punched the other before McCoy pulled a knife and slashed the victim.

McCoy initially was not located but officials tracked him down and made the arrest roughly 48 hours afterward. Police said Monday they hoped to speak to two women spotted in the area, though it’s unclear whether they were suspects or witnesses.
